I was given hosting duties for a local awards show that would be broadcast on television to millions of people. I hired a makeup artist to do my makeup for the event, but she became sick from a mysterious illness. I had to find a replacement mobile airbrush makeup artist that would fill her shoes in such a short notice. I frantically searched online and found one who was up to the task of doing my makeup. I wanted the event to be perfect, and wasn’t going to let a little bit of makeup stop me.
My makeup problem was solved, but another one took its place. One of the straps on my dress became unfastened. I tried holding it in place with a bit of tape, but the tape wouldn’t stick well to the fabric. The solution to my problem came in the form of a hot glue gun. I bought one years ago because I was making hand puppets for the children at the local elementary school and I left the glue gun in my car. I was going to take the glue gun out when I got around to cleaning out my car, but now I’m glad I didn’t. I ran out to the car to get it, plugged it in, and put a dab of hot glue on the strap.
As the awards ceremony took place, I was constantly thinking about my strap, hoping that the hot glue wouldn’t fall off. I moved as carefully as possible to make sure that I didn’t put too much force on the strap. After a couple of hours, my night of worrying was over. I changed out of that dress, thanked my makeup artist once again for helping me, and went home to drink some wine and take a long soak in the bathtub.
